- She’s the leader of a group of three (two white guys but listen)
- She gets to be amazing, powerful and vulnerable at the same time, she gets to be a fucking human being
- Everyone knows she’s awesome
- Basically she used to be an assassin she has a fucked up past (and deserves hugs) but she left that behind and now she’s a “killjoy” and picks her jobs herself. She captures people and doesn’t accept jobs that involve killing (too bad shit goes down)
- Her actress, Hannahn John-Kamen, is incredible. She plays two characters in the show, Dutch and Aneela. Aneela is the villain and Dutch’s nemesis and omg I have so many feelings about Aneela
- There’s no unnecessary drama especially no unnecessary relationship drama. There’s communication! Respect! Trust! And the main characters don’t treat each other like shit
- There’s a super close friendship between Dutch and Johnny, one of the male leads, they’re basically platonic life partners. If she’s feeling down she can go to him in the middle of the night and he’ll read comic books to her
- The two male leads are brothers, family is a big theme including chosen family (see Dutch and Johnny)
- A very important pairing later on featuring two complex WoC
- So many great women
- Listen I could describe the plot but I don’t know how to do it properly without spoilering. Just. It’s good? Really really good? The first few episodes are already really good but then it gets even better and the show just keeps improving idk how that’s even possible
- Dutch is the best???
- Why isn’t everyone talking about this show???
- Johnny’s a nerd and Dutch kicks ass and did I mention Dutch still gets to be vulnerable and cared for. She’s badass but she’s also been through a lot of shit and she’s allowed to deal with that and her team really wants to protect her (but also she’s the boss did I mention)
- I LOVE THIS SHOW
- If you don’t hate sci-fi or anything I strongly strongly recommend giving it a try
- The first episode starts out scary there’s some creepy shit for trope subversion I should probably warn ppl
- But Dutch is the best and the coolest and anyway this show is lovely and people should watch it
I hope you don’t mind some additions because there are so many things I love about this show
- The other brother, D’avin, starts out seeming like the stereotypical buff ex-soldier type, but has one of the most impressive character arcs I’ve seen
- He has and acknowledges PTSD from his time in the service, and actively seeks help for it
- Even the secondary characters have complex personalities and backstories
- Some of said secondary characters include a doctor who’s also an addict, a canonically gay bartender (who has such a gorgeous voice), and a masochistic monk
- They have a super interesting religion that’s actually plot relevant and all of the main characters have a real respect for the monks – it’s never questioned that the faith helps people through rough times and is a significant part of their lives
- There’s a whole group of people who have specialized prosthetics, and all of them are played by actual disabled actors
- The casting with the two brothers is fantastic, like
these two~~
- When he’s not in uniform or anything tactical, D’avin has an incredibly cozy aesthetic, he’s always wearing some kind of sweater and it’s adorable
